St James College has officially named its newly refurbished café, Café Di Marco, in honour of the generosity and community spirit of alumnus Adrian Di Marco OAM and his wife Kristina Di Marco. The naming marks another milestone in the college’s ongoing campus development and its commitment to fostering spaces of connection and care for its students.

The new precinct, which also houses the college canteen and uniform shop, has quickly become a lively hub for students and staff. Principal Andrée Rice said the space embodies the spirit of Edmund Rice through hospitality and belonging.

“Our new and refurbished spaces aren’t just about new paint and fresh tiles; they’re about creating a place where our students feel supported and empowered in every way — academically, socially, and practically,” said Ms Rice.

Ms Rice said the naming of the café was also an expression of gratitude to a proud Jimmies alumnus whose generosity continues to transform lives.

“Adrian proudly says that St James helped shape his values — and today we can honestly say the same about him."

"His vision, kindness, and humility continue to shape ours.” Ms Rice said.

“It’s my hope that our students will follow in Adrian’s footsteps and find ways to give back to a community that provided them with a liberating education and wings to fly.”

In a short address at the gathering, Mr Di Marco spoke of the values he learned at the college.

“The values that I learned here have carried me through my life,” he said.

“It’s very special to have an association with the community, and I’m very touched by the name of the café.”

The newly named Café Di Marco stands as a daily reminder of what generosity can do — and how gratitude can come full circle.

The café’s contemporary circular sign features a design inspired by the college’s historic stained-glass windows, originally created by art teacher Bronwyn Doherty in 1996. The artwork is a reminder of the enduring creativity and faith that continue to shape the St James College story.
