Cultural Immersion Programs
Students are given unique opportunities to take part in immersion and outreach programs to strengthen awareness of identity, justice, and solidarity and advocate for our communities on local, national, and global levels. Immersion programs include trips to Arnhem Land, Northern Territory, East Timor, Cambodia, and the Tiwi Islands.
Reconciliation
St James College has a strong connection with First Nation Peoples and the traditional landowners, the Jagera and Turrbal Peoples. Students have opportunities to implement the college Reconciliation Action Plan, undertake indigenous cultural activities including camps and immersions, NAIDOC Week, Sorry Day, MABO Day, Reconciliation Week, connection with elders, and the Indigenous Sacred Space.
Cultural Understanding
As a multicultural and multifaith community, we are committed to ensuring staff and students have an understanding and acceptance of the different cultures and faiths in our community. We do this by celebrating significant religious days and festivals including Ramadan, Buddha’s birthday, and Diwali.
National days of acknowledgement include Chinese New Year, Lantern Festival, NAIDOC Week, Reconciliation Week, Sorry Day, and the college’s annual cultural night – one of the biggest and most anticipated events on the college calendar.
