St James College Achieves Strong Results with a Top-10 Finish at State Championships
St James College was proudly represented at the Queensland Athletics All Schools Championships, held from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 October at the Queensland State Athletics Centre.
St James College Athletics Coach Darin Coombs, who is also an Australian Masters Athlete, said the students performed exceptionally well.
“All our students performed exceptionally well and showed great pride in representing the College,” Mr Coombs said.
“St James finished 45th out of 155 schools in the overall Girls’ Trophy and achieved an outstanding 9th place out of 177 schools in the overall Boys’ Trophy — a fantastic achievement!
A huge congratulations to all students who participated.”
Some standout performances included:
• Ned Amorsen – two gold medals in the 15 Boys 100m and 200m
• Molly Cater – one gold and two silver medals in the 800m, 100m, and 200m (PA Under 20)
• Oliver Hutchinson – one gold and two silver medals in the 800m, 100m, and 200m (PA Under 20)
• Cooper Lofts – silver medal in the 16 Boys Javelin
“In total, our students reached 13 finals out of 23 events — an impressive effort,” Mr Coombs added.
Further, Ned, Molly, Oliver, and Cooper will now represent Queensland at the Australian All Schools Championships, taking place in Melbourne in the first week of December.

About the Athletics Championships
The Queensland All Schools Championships feature both individual events and a points system to determine the top girls’ school, top boys’ school, and top overall school. This year saw an impressive turnout, with 320 Queensland schools entering the competition, and 263 contributing to the overall premiership points table.
The Australian All Schools Championships are held in December each year and will take place in Melbourne in 2025. The event features competitions for students from Under 14 to Under 18, dating back to 1976.
Competitors are selected to represent their state based on results from their state championships, such as the Queensland All Schools Championships.
