Record Number of Students and Teams Conquer Kokoda Challenge

St James celebrates its biggest Kokoda Challenge yet with six teams and 30 participants conquering the 48 km trek together for the fourth consecutive year. The teams of students and teachers took on the 48 km Gold Coast Kokoda Challenge, raising funds for The Kokoda Youth Foundation. Each team committed to raising $500 to support local youth programs that transform lives, and together they made it happen.

It was all made possible thanks to the incredible support crew of staff and parents, who helped with transport to and from training, allowing more students than ever to prepare for the challenge.

Training was no small feat. Every Wednesday afternoon, students hiked Mt Coo‑tha, with Saturdays reserved for long, tough sessions at Enoggera Reservoir, Koala Park and Mt Mee. They even braved a night hike through creeks and mud to prepare for the rugged terrain ahead.

On event day, students, staff and parents, cheered on by a dozen dedicated supporters, set out to conquer the course. Over 18 hours, they pushed through cold, muddy tracks, slippery slopes and a total elevation of 2,183m finishing with smiles, high-fives and unforgettable memories.

St James College Kokoda Challenge Group Leader Sarah Mouritz thanked the group’s supporters for their best year yet.

“A huge thank you to everyone involved students, staff, and parents alike.”

“This was a significant effort, and with dedication and strong support, it turned out to be arguably our best year yet.”

Mouritz also thanked College partner Technology One for their continued support.

With funds raised supporting youth programs, the St James teams are already dreaming of Kokoda 2026.
