National Runners-Up at Netball Challenge Debut

The St James College Year 9/10 Netball team made an incredible debut at the 2025 National All Schools Netball Challenge in Adelaide this week.

This was the college’s first time entering the prestigious tournament, which brought together schools from across Australia, including NSW, QLD, SA, WA, TAS, and VIC. From the very first whistle, the team showed determination and spirit, winning all six of their round robin matches and finishing on top of the ladder — a remarkable achievement for a debut side.

Their resilience was tested in the final rounds, where they battled hard against St Aloysius College from Tasmania to secure a place in the grand final. Up against Catherine McAuley College, Bendigo, the girls fought with courage and unity.

Reflecting on the team’s performance, St James College Sports Development Officer Eliza Hoelscher said the team demonstrated high quality sportsmanship.

“While they finished as runners-up in the Year 9/10 High Performance division, their performance demonstrated teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship at the highest level.”

“This experience has been unforgettable, and we’re already looking forward to next year’s tournament — aiming even higher!” Hoelscher added.

The milestone was made even more special as some students travelled with the college for the first time, embracing the challenge of interstate competition.

Acknowledgement and thanks goes to college staff, Head Coach Tia Parker, Manager Eliza Hoelscher, and Tour Support Evonne Tolo, whose guidance and support were invaluable throughout the tournament.

A huge congratulations to the Year 9/10 netballers on this outstanding achievement.
