St James College has officially become the first Brisbane home of Liverpool Football Club International Academy Australia (LFC IA), marking a milestone partnership that will give students access to world-class football coaching while strengthening pathways for young people both on and off the field.

The launch event brought together special guests including Mr Rob Davey, General Manager of LFC IA Australia and Ms Amanda Martin, Partnerships Director, and representatives of the Official Liverpool Supporters Club Queensland. The event attracted strong interest, with guests joined by media including Channel 7, The Brisbane Times and The Village Voice.

Principal Andrée Rice said the partnership aligns perfectly with the College’s values and vision for students.

“The four values of The Liverpool Way — ambition, commitment, dignity, and unity — line up beautifully with our own Jimmies values of liberating education, inclusive community, and justice and solidarity,” Ms Rice said.

“For our students, this Academy offers something unique. Some may dream of playing professionally. Others may simply take away the discipline, leadership, and camaraderie that come with being part of a team. Either way, it’s a pathway to growth.”

Eight students — four boys and four girls — joined in the launch assembly and training session, gaining their first experience of what it means to "play The Liverpool Way”.

Mr Davey said the collaboration was an exciting opportunity for Brisbane students to be part of Liverpool FC’s global family.

“The vision of the Academy is to be the world leader in the development of young people through football,” Mr Davey said.

“I’m reminded of Liverpool’s anthem, You’ll Never Walk Alone. These words encapsulate not just our club’s spirit, but the essence of this collaboration – a promise that every student is supported, whether on the pitch or in the classroom.”

Further, Davey noted that Liverpool’s ties to Brisbane run deep, with legendary striker Robbie Fowler managing Brisbane Roar in 2019–20.

“Now it’s time for St James students to show what talent Brisbane has to offer,” he added.

The partnership underlines St James College’s ongoing commitment to offering diverse opportunities that inspire confidence, resilience and achievement — in sport, study and life.

The program is open to students from Years 5 - 12 and includes a classroom learning component, weekly skill development programs, and also features holiday clinics and community day sessions.
