Fabulous Adventures Enjoyed During Book Week
This year’s Book Week theme, “Book an Adventure,” transformed the St James College library into a hub of imagination, connection, and creativity.
The week began with “Read and Connect – Sharing Stories with Teachers,” where students gathered outdoors to listen to their teachers read their favourite stories, creating a warm and engaging space to bond over books.
Throughout the week, the library embraced a technology-free zone during breaks, encouraging students to unplug and enjoy reading, drawing, and playing card and board games, rediscovering the joy of face-to-face connection.
A highlight for our Year 5 and 6 students was the “Choose Your Own Adventure” Junior Book Week lunch, where they crafted their own burgers, adding a delicious twist to the theme of exploration and choice.
We were honoured to welcome Ryan Chapman, author of The Adventures of Henny, founder of Yellow Dove Australia, and a proud staff member of St James College. Ryan shared his storytelling journey and read two captivating tales, Driving to the Red Sands and Looking for Waterholes, which celebrate the spirit of the Australian outback through the eyes of lovable canine adventurer, Henny.
With hundreds of books sold globally and 10% of profits supporting Yellow Dove Australia, Ryan’s work goes beyond storytelling, it fosters inclusive learning and strengthens community ties.
The week wrapped up with a fun pyjama dress-up day for Year 5 and 6 students, paired with adventure-themed board games during lunch, leaving everyone with smiles and stories to remember.
Book Week 2025 was a true celebration of adventure, creativity, and connection, thank you to all who made it unforgettable!
